Re-imagining the Ford Fellowship for Brazil

2018 marked the inaugural year the Ford Fellowship focused on one country alone: Brazil. The Fellowship took place in São Paulo from March 5 - 9, 2018. We received over 150 applications from individuals across all five regions of Brazil. The selected class included:

  • Marcos Antonio Candido Carvalho, Art Educational Coordinator, Centro Projeto Axé, (Salvador, Bahia)

  • Rodrigo Chia, Vice-president, Observatório Social de Brasília, (Brasília, Distrito Federal)

  • Jamile Coutrim Dalri, Fundraising Coordinator, Instituto Oncoguia, (São Paulo, São Paulo)

  • Silvia Daskal Hirschbruch, Executive Director, Instituto Doar, (São Paulo, São Paulo)

  • Daniel De Castro, Communications Advisor, UNAIDS Brasil, (Brasília, Distrito Federal)

  • Janaina Lazzarotto Simioni, Psychologist and Director Member Psychologist as Secretary, Instituto Orbis de Proteção e Conservação da Natureza, (Caxias do Sul, Rio Grande do Sul)

  • Binka Le Breton, Co-Founder and Director, Amigos de Iracambi (Iracambi), (Rosario da Limeira, Minas Gerais)

  • Fabiano Lopez da Silva, Executive Coordinator, Fundação Vitória Amazônica - FVA (Manaus, Amazonas)

  • Marcos Oliveira, Executive Director, Instituto MeViro, (Brasília, Distrito Federal)

  • Mariana Ribeiro, Director of Communications and Incubations, Nossas, (São Paulo, São Paulo)

In addition to the core programming, Fellows were introduced to Brazilian alumni from the program and participated in a half-day interactive leadership workshop with international blogger and speaker Beth Kanter.
